Moutya Lapoud

Steve Woods (Seychelles)

Steve Woods has worked in film since 1988. His work encompasses animations, documentaries, dance films and experimental films. He teaches Experimental Animation at the National Film School in IADT, Ireland and is on the board of Screen Directors Guild of Ireland. ‘Moutya Lapoud’ is Steve’s ninth Dance Film.

Love drew Steve to the Seychelles, although “like most Irish I find the tropics are too hot with too many beautiful beaches. We Irish do misery so well, we miss it when we are abroad. There's nothing like two weeks of cold rain in the dark winter…” The Arts in Seychelles is strong, and a local film industry is just beginning to surface there. Steve and Denis met at Alliance Francais. After seeing Denis’ piece there, ‘Moutya Lapoud’ grew collaboratively as their further interpretation on the subject of drug addiction. Sophie was a happy addition to their team as camerawoman, as she holds a strong interest in dance film. Balancing the pride of Seychellois culture with the realities of societal challenges is a sensitive task, but it can lead to meaningful exploration. The team plans to reunite for another project in the future.
